Taylor Blau 8c735b11de upload-pack: disallow object-info capability by default
We added an "object-info" capability to the v2 upload-pack protocol in
a2ba162cda (object-info: support for retrieving object info,
2021-04-20). In the almost 3 years since, we have not added any
client-side support, and it does not appear to exist in other
implementations either (JGit understands the verb on the server side,
but not on the client side).

Since this largely unused code is accessible over the network by
default, it increases the attack surface of upload-pack. I don't know of
any particularly severe problem, but one issue is that because of the
request/response nature of the v2 protocol, it will happily read an
unbounded number of packets, adding each one to a string list (without
regard to whether they are objects we know about, duplicates, etc).

This may be something we want to improve in the long run, but in the
short term it makes sense to disable the feature entirely. We'll add a
config option as an escape hatch for anybody who wants to develop the
feature further.

A more gentle option would be to add the config option to let people
disable it manually, but leave it enabled by default. But given that
there's no client side support, that seems like the wrong balance with
security.

Disabling by default will slow adoption a bit once client-side support
does become available (there were some patches[1] in 2022, but nothing
got merged and there's been nothing since). But clients have to deal
with older servers that do not understand the option anyway (and the
capability system handles that), so it will just be a matter of servers
flipping their config at that point (and hopefully once any unbounded
allocations have been addressed).

[jk: this is a patch that GitHub has been running for several years, but
rebased forward and with a new commit message for upstream]

Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 7cce9074a7 bundle-uri client: add boolean transfer.bundleURI setting
The yet-to-be introduced client support for bundle-uri will always
fall back on a full clone, but we'd still like to be able to ignore a
server's bundle-uri advertisement entirely.

The new transfer.bundleURI config option defaults to 'false', but a user
can set it to 'true' to enable checking for bundle URIs from the origin
Git server using protocol v2.

Jacob Stopak c9dba103dd Documentation: fix various repeat word typos
Inspired by 24966cd982 ("doc: fix repeated words", 08-09-2019),
I ran "egrep -R "\<([a-zA-Z]+)\> \<\1\>" ./Documentation/*" to
find current cases of repeated words such as "the the" that were
quite clearly typos.

There were many false positives reported, such as "really really"
or valid uses of "that that" which I left alone.

Taylor Blau bcb6cdfc03 Documentation/config/transfer.txt: fix typo
Commit 7281c196b1 (transfer doc: move fetch.credentialsInUrl to
"transfer" config namespace, 2022-06-15) propagates a typo from
6dcbdc0d66 (remote: create fetch.credentialsInUrl config, 2022-06-06),
where "other" is misspelled as "oher". Fix the typo accordingly.

Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason 7281c196b1 transfer doc: move fetch.credentialsInUrl to "transfer" config namespace
Rename the "fetch.credentialsInUrl" configuration variable introduced
in 6dcbdc0d66 (remote: create fetch.credentialsInUrl config,
2022-06-06) to "transfer".

There are existing exceptions, but generally speaking the
"<namespace>.<var>" configuration should only apply to command
described in the "namespace" (and its sub-commands, so e.g. "clone.*"
or "fetch.*" might also configure "git-remote-https").

But in the case of "fetch.credentialsInUrl" we've got a configuration
variable that configures the behavior of all of "clone", "push" and
"fetch", someone adjusting "fetch.*" configuration won't expect to
have the behavior of "git push" altered, especially as we have the
pre-existing "{transfer,fetch,receive}.fsckObjects", which configures
different parts of the transfer dialog.

So let's move this configuration variable to the "transfer" namespace
before it's exposed in a release. We could add all of
"{transfer, fetch, pull}.credentialsInUrl" at some other time, but once
we have "fetch" configure "pull" such an arrangement would would be a
confusing mess, as we'd at least need to have "fetch" configure
"push" (but not the other way around), or change existing behavior.

Kim Altintop 53a66ec37c docs: clarify the interaction of transfer.hideRefs and namespaces
Expand the section about namespaces in the documentation of
`transfer.hideRefs` to point out the subtle differences between
`upload-pack` and `receive-pack`.

ffcfb68176 (upload-pack.c: treat want-ref relative to namespace,
2021-07-30) taught `upload-pack` to reject `want-ref`s for hidden refs,
which is now mentioned. It is clarified that at no point the name of a
hidden ref is revealed, but the object id it points to may.

Mark Rushakoff 6d16922798 doc: typo: s/can not/cannot/ and s/is does/does/
"Can not" suggests one has the option to not do something, whereas
"cannot" more strongly suggests something is disallowed or impossible.

Noticed "can not", mistakenly used instead of "cannot" in git help
glossary, then ran git grep 'can not' and found many other instances.
Only files in the Documentation folder were modified.

'Can not' also occurs in some source code comments and some test
assertion messages, and there is an error message and translation "can
not move directory into itself" which I may fix and submit separately
from the documentation change.

Also noticed and fixed "is does" in git help fetch, but there are no
other occurrences of that typo according to git grep.
