René Scharfe	1b19fa4634	upload-archive: fix infinite loop on Cygwin On Cygwin, poll() reports POLLIN even for file descriptors that have reached their end. This caused git upload-archive to be stuck in an infinite loop, as it only looked at the POLLIN flag. In addition to POLLIN, check if read() returned 0, which indicates end-of-file, and keep looping only as long as at least one of the file descriptors has input. This lets the following command finish on its own when run in a git repository on Cygwin, instead of it getting stuck after printing all file names: $ git archive -v --remote . Jeff King	05ac6b34e2	improve missing repository error message Certain remote commands, when asked to do something in a particular directory that was not actually a git repository, would say "unable to chdir or not a git archive". The "chdir" bit is an unnecessary detail, and the term "git archive" is much less common these days than "git repository". Rene Scharfe	7f4d0511af	archive: define MAX_ARGS where it's needed MAX_EXTRA_ARGS is not used anymore, so remove it. MAX_ARGS is used only in builtin-upload-archive.c, so define it there. Also report the actual value we're comparing against when the number of args is too big. Stephan Beyer	1b1dd23f2d	Make usage strings dash-less When you misuse a git command, you are shown the usage string. But this is currently shown in the dashed form. So if you just copy what you see, it will not work, when the dashed form is no longer supported. This patch makes git commands show the dash-less version. For shell scripts that do not specify OPTIONS_SPEC, git-sh-setup.sh generates a dash-less usage string now. Andy Whitcroft	93d26e4cb9	short i/o: fix calls to read to use xread or read_in_full We have a number of badly checked read() calls. Often we are expecting read() to read exactly the size we requested or fail, this fails to handle interrupts or short reads. Add a read_in_full() providing those semantics. Otherwise we at a minimum need to check for EINTR and EAGAIN, where this is appropriate use xread(). Junio C Hamano	85023577a8	simplify inclusion of system header files. This is a mechanical clean-up of the way *.c files include system header files. (1) sources under compat/, platform sha-1 implementations, and xdelta code are exempt from the following rules; (2) the first #include must be "git-compat-util.h" or one of our own header file that includes it first (e.g. config.h, builtin.h, pkt-line.h); (3) system headers that are included in "git-compat-util.h" need not be included in individual C source files. Franck Bui-Huu	9c95fbf94f	upload-archive: monitor child communication even more carefully. The current code works like this: if others flags than POLLIN is raised we assume that (a) something bad happened and the child died or (b) the child has closed the pipe because it had no more data to send. For the latter case, we assume wrongly that one call to process_input() will empty the pipe. Indeed it reads only 16Ko of data by call and the the pipe capacity can be larger than that (on current Linux kernel, it is 65536 bytes). Therefore the child can write 32ko of data, for example, and close the pipe. After that poll will return POLLIN _and_ POLLHUP and the parent will read only 16ko of data. This patch forces the parent to empty the pipe as soon as POLLIN is raised and even if POLLHUP or something else is raised too. Moreover, some implementations of poll might return POLLRDNORM flag even if it is non standard. Junio C Hamano	d3788e19e2	upload-archive: monitor child communication more carefully. Franck noticed that the code around polling and relaying messages from the child process was quite bogus. Here is an attempt to clean it up a bit, based on his patch: - When POLLHUP is set, it goes ahead and reads the file descriptor. Worse yet, it does not check the return value of read() for errors when it does. - When we processed one POLLIN, we should just go back and see if any more data is available. We can check if the child is still there when poll gave control back at us but without any actual input. Franck Bui-Huu	39345a216f	Add git-upload-archive This command implements the git archive protocol on the server side. This command is not intended to be used by the end user. Underlying git-archive command line options are sent over the protocol from "git-archive --remote=...", just like upload-tar currently does with "git-tar-tree=...". As for "git-archive" command implementation, this new command does not execute any existing "git-{tar,zip}-tree" but rely on the archive API defined by "git-archive" patch. Hence we get 2 good points: - "git-archive" and "git-upload-archive" share all option parsing code. - All kind of git-upload-{tar,zip} can be deprecated.
