Fix typos in documentation, code comments, and RelNotes which repeat
various words. In trivial cases, just delete the duplicated word and
rewrap text, if needed. Reword the affected sentence in
Documentation/RelNotes/1.8.4.txt for it to make sense.

There were some early changes in the 2.31 cycle to optimize some setup
in diffcore-rename.c[1], some later changes to measure performance[2],
and finally some significant changes to improve rename detection
performance. The final one was merged with the note
Performance optimization work on the rename detection continues.
That works for the commit log, but feels misleading as a release note
since all the changes were within one cycle. Simplify this to just
Performance improvements for rename detection.
The former wording could be seen as hinting that more performance
improvements will come in 2.32, which is true, but we can just cover
those in the 2.32 release notes when the time comes.

The internal code originally invented for ".gitignore" processing
got reshuffled and renamed to make it less tied to "excluding" and
stress more that it is about "matching", as it has been reused for
things like sparse checkout specification that want to check if a
path is "included".

The first consumer of pattern-matching filenames was the
.gitignore feature. In that context, storing a list of patterns
as a 'struct exclude_list' makes sense. However, the
sparse-checkout feature then adopted these structures and methods,
but with the opposite meaning: these patterns match the files
that should be included!
It would be clearer to rename this entire library as a "pattern
matching" library, and the callers apply exclusion/inclusion
logic accordingly based on their needs.
This commit renames several methods defined in dir.h to make
more sense with the renamed 'struct exclude_list' to 'struct
pattern_list' and 'struct exclude' to 'struct path_pattern':
* last_exclude_matching() -> last_matching_pattern()
* parse_exclude() -> parse_path_pattern()
In addition, the word 'exclude' was replaced with 'pattern'
in the methods below:
* add_exclude_list()
* add_excludes_from_file_to_list()
* add_excludes_from_file()
* add_excludes_from_blob_to_list()
* add_exclude()
* clear_exclude_list()
A few methods with the word "exclude" remain. These will
be handled seperately. In particular, the method
"is_excluded()" is concretely about the .gitignore file
relative to a specific directory. This is the important
boundary between library and consumer: is_excluded() cares
about .gitignore, but is_excluded() calls
last_matching_pattern() to make that decision.

It turns out that being cautious to warn against upcoming default
change was an unpopular behaviour, and such a care can easily be
defeated by distro packagers to render it ineffective anyway.
Just flip the default, with only a mention in the release notes.

Mention that this feature works with some commands (merge and cherry-pick,
implying that it also works with commands that build on these like rebase
-m and rebase -i). Explicitly mentioning two commands hopefully implies
that it may not always work with other commands (am, and rebase without
flags that imply either -m or -i).
Also, since the directory rename detection from this cycle was
specifically added in merge-recursive and not diffcore-rename, remove the
'in "diff" family" phrase from the note. (Folks have requested in the
past that `git diff` detect directory renames and somehow simplify its
output, so it may be helpful to avoid implying that diff has any new
capability here.)

In the 2.18 cycle, directory rename detection was merged, then reverted,
then reworked in such a way to fix another prominent bug in addition to
the original problem causing it to be reverted. When the reworked series
was merged, we ended up with two nearly duplicate release notes. Remove
the second copy, but preserve the information about the extra bug fix.
