It does an extra ls-files to avoid complaining when a fully tracked directory name is given on the command line (otherwise --others restriction would say the pathspec does not match). Junio C Hamano	d165fa14f0	define die() for scripts that use it. As a fallout from not using git-sh-setup in scripts that can operate from a subdirectory, we lost definition of die() from them. Junio C Hamano	4bfe1199ea	Teach git-add and git-commit to handle filenames starting with '-'. Recent '--' fixes to "git diff" by Linus made it possible to specify filenames that start with '-'. But in order to do that, you need to be able to add and commit such file to begin with. Teach git-add and git-commit to honor the same '--' convention. Junio C Hamano	caf4f582b2	Improve "git add" again. This makes it possible to add paths that have funny characters (TAB and LF) in them, and makes adding many paths more efficient in general. New flag "--stdin" to update-index was initially added for different purpose, but it turns out to be a perfect match for feeding "ls-files --others -z" output to improve "git add". Linus Torvalds	37539fbda5	[PATCH] Improved "git add" This fixes everybodys favourite complaint about "git add", namely that it doesn't take directories. We use "git-ls-files --others" to generate an arbitrary list of filenames, and thus also automatically honor ignore-files while we're at it. Side note: there's a lot of room for improvement here. In particular, if we have a long list of filenames (importing a big archive), this will just do a big stupid for-loop and add them one at a time. Maybe it should use generate-list \| xargs -0 git-update-idex --add -- instead. Also, I think we should have a default ignore list if we don't find a .git/info/exclude file. Ignoring ".o" and "." by default would probably be the right thing to do. But I think this is a good first step. Use the "-n" flag to just show the list of files to be added without adding them. Junio C Hamano	215a7ad1ef	Big tool rename. As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences since 0.99.6 are: (1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if something is implemented as a shell script or not. (2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with 'index' if that is what they mean. There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near future.
