Nicolas Pitre	4b480c6716	discard revindex data when pack list changes This is needed to fix verify-pack -v with multiple pack arguments. Also, in theory, revindex data (if any) must be discarded whenever reprepare_packed_git() is called. In practice this is hard to trigger though. On 32-bit platforms, it could be defined as unsigned long. The same caution applies to ntohl(). Nicolas Pitre	77d3ecee85	move show_pack_info() where it belongs This is called when verify_pack() has its verbose argument set, and verbose in this context makes sense only for the actual 'git verify-pack' command. Therefore let's move show_pack_info() to builtin-verify-pack.c instead and remove useless verbose argument from verify_pack(). Johannes Schindelin	ef90d6d420	Provide git_config with a callback-data parameter git_config() only had a function parameter, but no callback data parameter. This assumes that all callback functions only modify global variables. With this patch, every callback gets a void * parameter, and it is hoped that this will help the libification effort. Nicolas Pitre	340814636d	make verify_one_pack() a bit less wrong wrt packed_git structure Simply freeing it is wrong. There are many things attached to this structure that are not cleaned up. In practice this doesn't matter much since this happens just before the program exits, but it is still a bit more "correct" to leak it implicitly rather than explicitly. And therefore it is also a good idea to register it with install_packed_git(). Not only might it have better chance of being properly cleaned up if such functionality is implemented for the general case, but some functions like init_revindex() expect all packed_git instances to be globally accessible. Now that our pack access code's behavior may be altered by the setting of core.packedGitWindowSize or core.packedGitLimit we need to make sure these values are set as configured in the repository's configuration file rather than to their defaults. Rene Scharfe	68f4c78b95	git-verify-pack: insist on .idx extension git-verify-pack can be called with a filename without .idx extension. add_packed_git() on the other hand depends on its presence. So instead of trying to call it with whatever the user gave us check for that extension and add it if it's missing. That means that you can't name your index file "blah" and your pack file ".pack" anymore ("git-verify-pack blah" currently works in that case). Junio C Hamano	f3bf922409	[PATCH] verify-pack updates. Nico pointed out that having verify_pack.c and verify-pack.c was confusing. Rename verify_pack.c to pack-check.c as suggested, and enhances the verification done quite a bit. - Built-in sha1_file unpacking knows that a base object of a deltified object _must_ be in the same pack, and takes advantage of that fact. - Earlier verify-pack command only checked the SHA1 sum for the entire pack file and did not look into its contents. It now checks everything idx file claims to have unpacks correctly. - It now has a hook to give more detailed information for objects contained in the pack under -v flag. Junio C Hamano	f9253394a2	[PATCH] Add git-verify-pack command. Given a list of <pack>.idx files, this command validates the index file and the corresponding .pack file for consistency. This patch also uses the same validation mechanism in fsck-cache when the --full flag is used. During normal operation, sha1_file.c verifies that a given .idx file matches the .pack file by comparing the SHA1 checksum stored in .idx file and .pack file as a minimum sanity check. We may further want to check the pack signature and version when we map the pack, but that would be a separate patch. Earlier, errors to map a pack file was not flagged fatal but led to a random fatal error later. This version explicitly die()s when such an error is detected.
