Junio C Hamano	a6080a0a44	War on whitespace This uses "git-apply --whitespace=strip" to fix whitespace errors that have crept in to our source files over time. There are a few files that need to have trailing whitespaces (most notably, test vectors). The results still passes the test, and build result in Documentation/ area is unchanged. Junio C Hamano	308efc10d8	merge-index: fix longstanding bug in merging symlinks Ancient commit `e2b6a9d0` added code to pass "file modes" from merge-index to merge-one-file, and then later commit `54dd99a1` wanted to make sure we do not end up creating a nonsense symlink that points at a path whose name contains conflict markers. However, nobody noticed that the code in merge-index added by `e2b6a9d0` were stripping the S_IFMT bits and the code in `54dd99a1` was meaningless. This fixes it. Junio C Hamano	85023577a8	simplify inclusion of system header files. This is a mechanical clean-up of the way *.c files include system header files. (1) sources under compat/, platform sha-1 implementations, and xdelta code are exempt from the following rules; (2) the first #include must be "git-compat-util.h" or one of our own header file that includes it first (e.g. config.h, builtin.h, pkt-line.h); (3) system headers that are included in "git-compat-util.h" need not be included in individual C source files. Junio C Hamano	f0b7367cb1	Restore SIGCHLD to SIG_DFL where we care about waitpid(). It was reported that under one implementation of socks client "git clone" fails with "error: waitpid failed (No child processes)", because "git" is spawned after setting SIGCHLD to SIG_IGN. Arguably it may be a broken setting, but we should protect ourselves so that we can get reliable results from waitpid() for the children we care about. This patch resets SIGCHLD to SIG_DFL in three places: - connect.c::git_connect() - initiators of git native protocol transfer are covered with this. - daemon.c::main() - obviously. - merge-index.c::main() - obviously. There are other programs that do fork() but do not waitpid(): http-push, imap-send. upload-pack does not either, but in the case of that program, each of the forked halves runs exec() another program, so this change would not have much effect there. Junio C Hamano	215a7ad1ef	Big tool rename. As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences since 0.99.6 are: (1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if something is implemented as a shell script or not. (2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with 'index' if that is what they mean. There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near future. Petr Baudis	2a45925180	git-merge-cache -o does all the automerges in a single shot When you pass git-merge-cache the -o option, it tries to do all the automatic merges and possibly return error if any of them failed, instead of the default behaviour of failing immediately after the first failed automatic merge. Ported from the Cogito branch - Cogito needs this behaviour.	20 years ago

James Bottomley	e2b6a9d0bf	[PATCH] make file merging respect permissions 1) permissions aren't respected in the merge script (primarily because they're never passed in to it in the first place). Fix that and also check for permission conflicts in the merge 2) the delete of a file in both branches may indeed be just that, but it could also be the indicator of a rename conflict (file moved to different locations in both branches), so error out and ask the committer for guidance.
